It has been an interesting summer

When I opened Pleasantville Astrology I decided to research the local holistic scene.

I joined a networking group. Actually one with two branches, one in Westchester, New York, and the other in Connecticut. What did I find? Interesting practitioners of many varieties. At my first networking breakfast I sat next to a lady who makes kimonos, and opposite another working with light as a healing modality.

So I began to exchange services with these people.

I gave astrological readings in exchange for a sample of their practice.

In the past few months I have received quite a bit of Reiki, been in an immersive egg, had a psychic reading, had a tarot reading, used lightwave patches, had an oracle card reading, spoken with a death doula, done the Clifton Strengths assessment, and been bathed in scalar waves … and there is more to come.

The range of these experiences been fascinating and educational, as one practitioner said about this group,

“Everyone is an empath.”

And that is true, so I have no hesitation recommending all of them to each other, and also to you!

I had a distance yoga and breath-work session with Carol over zoom. She is user-friendly and easy to work with. The techniques were simple and effective. The energetic shift was subtle but potent. As I told Carol, I felt as if my internal organs had been put in a washing machine on the gentle cycle. The overall effect was pleasant and led to a state of greater mindfulness, which had me thinking - it's easy to get here, why don't I, why doesn't everyone, do this kind of thing more often?

My Reiki session with Gail was quite lovely. In the early minutes I got multiple images of people from all over different times in my life, but as I moved more deeply into the relaxation, I began to get different color experiences in my inner vision. First yellow and then orange, and then a very vivid purple. Gail used light touch and as I moved into deeper relaxation I felt the caring and the sensitivity in her hands!

My Reiki with Teresa was, as with each session I've had with different practitioners,  something that takes you to a new depth of relaxation. In fact it was so relaxing that each time I was on the point of falling asleep I seemed to stop breathing! This would usually be alarming but my experience was more about some kind of blockage being cleared - certainly a physical one, but also something emotional as well. I emerged from the session feeling rejuvenated and clearer. I also very much appreciated the feedback on the state of my chakras!

I had a tarot reading yesterday with Patti - a business strategy one. It was super comfortable chatting with her and discussing where I am with the business and where I might go next. We explored issues of focus, assistance and timing. Patti’s approach is interactive and responsive as she explores the symbolism of the cards as they arrive in the reading. A great way to get clarity and direction. Also lots of fun and very pleasurable. Highly recommended!

The remarkable thing about my Reiki session with Jessie is that it was remote. That is she and I were in different physical locations. Ok, so I am an astrologer and as such receptive to ideas about quantum space-time, but to actually experience energy moving around my body while someone was working on me from another place ... well that was impressive, and the experience was deeply relaxing, refreshing and healing.

I had the deliciously relaxing experience of a session in the Egg at the Hummingbird Healing Centre recently. It was a walk between the worlds. As my body relaxed my awareness began to loosen. I was in an altered state which was as puzzling as it was pleasurable. Why so? - There's no way I can claim to understand the way the Egg works after a single session, but I believe a deep healing has occurred and that is worth the price of admission as the saying goes.

Francine Tesler is someone who can access information from another place. A reading with her is little like taking a psychic shower. Once she turns on the tap, ideas and inspiration come streaming forth. One particularly impressive feature of Francine’s reading with me, was that several times she said, “Don’t tell me!” When I was about to fill in a detail, and then she would go on to describe the exact detail! Fast a fun, and full of very practical tips on what to do next!

I've also been experimenting with a system called LifeWave, which as far as I understand is a kind of phototherapy that stimulates stem cells in the body for a rejuvenating effect. The therapy is delivered via a patch or multiple patches worn at acupressure points on the body.

I had a specific and pressing reason to give this a try. For more than two years I have experienced a serious level of pain in my upper arm and shoulder following the last virus booster injection I had - I took the shot against my better judgement, but the fact was you couldn't work in New York city without proof of vaccination. So I'm a month into using the patches - I do notice a marked improvement - I am not cured yet, but I am grateful for the relief so far.

If the LIfeWave method works, then it is a radical departure from the conventional medical approach, and as such, in my opinion to be welcomed and explored further.

Michelle Adams has opened Quantum Healing and Wellness in Bedford Hills, N.Y. Among several spa services she has an EES (Energy Enhancement System) in place. I first encountered it at a networking event. After 90 minutes in the large room where people were exchanging business cards I walked out into the car park and I noticed how great I was feeling.

My mind was clear and my step was light. I felt positive and confident. All this was subtle yet very noticeable.

So I took advantage of the summer special and have logged quite a few hours in this new wellness technology. As with other healing modalities it is most effective if at the same time one follows a program of clean living. And it is necessary to take a detoxing salt bath following a session. All this adds up to a certain time commitment. In the sessions I experienced a very deep state of relaxation, and I think the main benefits so far are a better quality of sleep, and greater clarity of mindfulness.

But the experience of being bathed in scalar waves is worth investigating! And my intention is to return to this modality in 2025 and explore further.

At Wayne Leiss’s suggestion I took the Clifton Strengths assessment and Wayne gave me a reading of the results. The assessment itself is comprised of many apparently simple questions which add up to a startlingly accurate (at least in my experience) analysis of how one is, and how one acts, and operates in the world. The session with Wayne, where he explained and expanded on the results of the assessment, then revealed a strategy for basically playing to one’s strengths. This modality is simple and accessible and immediately of practical use. I found several points of connection with my own astrological work. Wayne also offers other complimentary healing modes including full in depth life-coaching. A fascinating psycho-metric!

Kudos to Anne Bentzen who has recently transferred her operations to a new space in Armonk, moving from Pleasantville. Anne, herself an experienced Jikiden Reiki practitioner, also welcomes other practitioners to her space. Among them are: Scott Nelson and Alejandro Fuentes who practice sound healing and draw on the Native American tradition, and Jessica Lawrence who offers intuitive and psychic readings, I also offer astrology and tarot from time to time.

Apart from the general admiration I have for holistic entrepreneurs, I have to say that Anne is at pains to make a welcoming space and her focus is service to the community, I am grateful to be a small part of her operation!
